Tesla Inc. (Tesla Motors until 2017)  : is an electric vehicle manufacturer with its corporate headquarters in Austin, Texas, on the Colorado River in the United States. The company is named in honor of American engineer and inventor Nikola Tesla, who is of Serbian descent. She was established in San Carlos in 2003 by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning. Elon Musk, the company's current leader, has turned it into a manufacturer of electric vehicles aimed at the general public. While the company has made a name for itself by promising to offer automatic steering-wheel-diversion vehicles, Tesla's vehicles only offer a driving aid.

The company has expanded its offering of energy-related products to include stationary batteries, dubbed "powerwall" for residential use and "powerpack" for industrial use. The acquisition of the company SolarCity in 2016 added photovoltaic panels and solar lights to its product portfolio.

In 2015 and 2016, the Tesla Model S, a high-end family berline produced since 2012, became the most popular 100% electric vehicle worldwide. As Tesla Motors, the company was founded on July 1st, 2003 by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning , The company is named in honor of Serbian-American inventor and engineer Nikola Tesla , Eberhard and Tarpenning are currently serving as PDG and financial director, respectively , According to Eberhard, the idea behind the founding of Tesla Motors comes from a desire to create "an automobile manufacturer that is also a technological enterprise," whose underlying technologies would include "the battery, the computer software, and the engine."

A few months later, Ian Wright, Tesla's third employee, re-joined the company , The three colleagues raised $7,5 million in February 2004 as part of a Series A financing from a number of investors, including Elon Musk, who provided the vast majority of the funding with $6,5 million.

Elon Musk rejoins the company after the investment and is appointed president of the administrative council , In May 2004 B. Straubel re-joined Tesla. Following a legal dispute between Eberhard and Tesla in September 2009, Eberhard, Tarpenning, Wright, Musk, and Straubel were named co-founders of Tesla Motors.
