Walmart
American large-scale distribution company :
Sam Walton founded Walmart, an American multinational corporation with a focus on large distribution. Founded in 1962, the business grew in Arkansas before dominating the American market and beginning to expand internationally in 1991.
Walmart is currently the world's leading large distribution group. His revenue will surpass 600 billion dollars in 2022, making him the world's largest company by revenue, surpassing Exxon or Saudi Aramco.
Walmart is the largest private employer in the world, employing 2,1 million people across 11,000 stores.
Eighty percent of the group's revenue comes from the United States. His first international markets were Mexico (2,634), Central America (855 stores), China (434 stores), and Canada (408 stores). Some of his development attempts, such as in Japan and Germany, have failed, sometimes for cultural reasons.
The organization is heavily criticized for its devastating effect on small businesses and the extreme pressure it puts on suppliers. It is seen as a symbol of American capitalism and its flaws[10]. Walmart is listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
His headquarters are in Bentonville, Arkansas.
Organizational structure at Walmart :
The company is focused on three main distribution networks: Wal-Mart Stores Division U.S., Sam's Club, and Wal-Mart International[40]. The company operates a variety of different-sized businesses, including supercenters, food and drug stores, general merchandise shops, bodegas (small merchants), cash and carry shops, membership warehouse clubs, clothing stores, soft discount stores, and restaurants.
Division of Wal-Mart Stores in the U.S. :
The largest distribution network is Wal-Mart Stores Division U.S., which accounted for 67.2% of sales in the fiscal year 2006[40]. Discount stores, supercenters, and neighborhood markets make up this part of American retail. This division also includes the online shopping website Walmart.com. A beta version of the company's video on demand service, which sells 3000 films and television episodes from virtually all major studios and networks, was introduced on February 6th, 2007.
Cheaper Wal-Mart stores :
Wal-Mart Discount Stores is a chain of stores with sizes ranging from 9 200 m2 to 20 800 m2, on average 9 400 m2 ,They sell daily necessities and, most importantly, non-food items. These stores sell toys, pet supplies, clothing, automobile accessories, sporting goods, movies, music, and much more. Many people also have a space set aside for a pharmacy, Tire & Lube Express, an optical shop, a picture lab, and fast food restaurants. Some people also have a station service. The first one opened in Rogers, Arkansas, in 1963. Then, it was expanded and reorganized to become a Wal-Mart Supercenter 24H ,There were 988 Wal-Mart Discount Stores in the United States as of October 31st, 2007. The busiest discount store in the world in 2006 was located in Rapid City, South Dakota.
Super Wal-Mart Store :
Wal-Mart Supercenters is a chain of hypermarkets with a range in size from 9 100 m2 to 24 248 m2, on average 18 302 m2. As with Discount Stores, Supercenters offer all of the goods and services of a Supermarket, including meats, frozen foods, seafood, and other items. Many Wal-Mart Supercenters have additional services attached, including a garden center, an animal hospital, a pharmacy, an optical shop, a photo lab, and numerous other stores such as those selling portable phones, hair salons, DVD rentals, banquet facilities, quick-service restaurants, and station services, the majority of which are provided by Mobil Oil Corporation (formerly Murphy USA), Sunoco (Optima), and Tesoro Corporation (Mirastar).
The first Supercenter opened in 1998 in Washington, Missouri. A similar Wal-Mart Hypermart USA has opened in Garland, Texas. Then, every Hypermart USA was shut down or transformed into a Supercenter. There were 3,569 Wal-Mart Supercenters in the United States as of July 31st, 2019. The largest "Supercenter" in the world is located in Albany, New York.
Wal-Mart Community Market :
The Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market chain of primarily food stores was introduced by Wal-Mart in 1998. These stores are made in a way that differs from hypermarchés. They are smaller in size and made for customers who want to quickly and easily place themselves. Neighborhood Market stores offer a variety of goods, including a full line of food, pharmaceutical, personal care, and cosmetic products. They also provide a photo-development service and a limited number of general merchandise. Typically located in areas with an existing Wal-Mart Supercenter, they support the distribution network. On October 31, 2007, there were 128 Neighborhood Markets in the United States.
A Neighborhood Markets has a surface area of around 3,900 m2, which is about one-fourth the size of a Supercenter in the United States. However, a store of this size is already categorized as a supermarché or even a hypermarché compact in several countries. Such a store employs between 80 and 100 people and offers, on average, 28, 000 items.
"Sam's Club" :
The average size of a Sam's Club store is only 12 263 square feet, compared to an average Supercenter size of 17 372 square feet ,They each employ 160 to 175 people to sell 5 500 different items. For some services (optics, pharmacy, alcohol sales), you must be a member to shop at Sam's Club, receive a 10% discount on purchases, or use promotional coupons, such as those given out by newspapers. Nearly all of the merchandise is displayed on palettes rather than etageres. In 2014, about 580 Sam's Club stores sold jewelry, sunglasses, electronics, flowers, and food, sometimes under their own brands (Member's Mark, Bakers & Chefs, or Sam's Club).
The majority also included a pharmacy, a photo lab, and an optician. Sam's Choice and Great Value, which are offered in the standard Wal-Mart, are not sold there.
The first Sam's Club opened in Midwest City, Oklahoma, in April 1983. The name is obviously related to Sam Walton. In 1993, Wal-Mart took over Kmart's PACE Membership Warehouse and converted some of them (though not all) into Sam's Club.
Sam's Club currently has more than 48 million members in the United States and operates 580 stores. A number of Sam's Club locations can be found abroad, including in Brazil, China, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. There were six stores in Canada, however due to competition from Costco Wholesale, its main rival, and the economic climate in 2009, Wal-Mart's administration announced on February 27, 2009 that the six Sam's Club locations in Canada would close on March 1, 2009 ,For the fiscal year 2005, Sam's Club, a division of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., generated revenue totaling $37.1 billion.
Transports in Wal-Mart :
Wal-Mart forced some of its suppliers to relocate and significantly improved its logistical chain, in particular its fleet of trucks (about 6 500 trailers, 55 000 remorques, and 7 000 drivers in 2014, which, for example, would have traveled 1 120 million miles in the United States in 2012) from an energy efficiency standpoint ,The company claims to have achieved significant scale savings for its fleet of trucks, more than UPS or FedEx, with the help of the Department of Energy of the United States (DOE), which estimates that 6 to 9 billion L/year of gasoil could be saved in the country if trucks used less fuel. However, the company has not yet met its goal (18 L/100 km in 2015) ,According to Wal-Mart, 80% of the goal was reached by mid-2014.
Wal-Mart Worldwide :
Wal-Mart International currently oversees 2,980 stores in ten nations outside of the United States, including Canada, Mexico, Great Britain, China, Brazil, Argentina, Chile (Lider), and Japan.
She accounts for 92 billion dollars in revenue, or 40.7% of the company's sales for the year 2007.
Walmart pulls out of low-growth countries in 2018 to concentrate on others like China and India. In April, it sells a majority stake in its British subsidiary Asda to Sainsbury's, and in May, it acquires control of Indian online retailer Flipkart for 16 billion dollars. It announces in June the sale of 80% of its Brazilian subsidiary to Advent International's capital investment fund.
Wal-Mart Canada :
Walmart opened stores in Canada by acquiring Woolworth's Woolco division ,With the exception of a few stores that were synced, Walmart will purchase all of Woolworth's sales. The company had 278 stores and employed 70 000 Canadians in 2007. The Canadian Division's headquarters are in Mississauga, Ontario. The first three Canadian Supercenters opened their doors on November 8th, 2006. Three months later, there were already six Walmart Supercenters in Canada.
Wal-Mart Japan :
In 2002, Walmart expanded into Japan by purchasing Seiyu, a company with 400 stores there. Since this acquisition, Seiyu has only reported losses totaling up to 20,93 billion yen in 2007 .
Walmart announced in July 2018 that it had decided to sell Seiyu and had contacted distributors and capital investment funds to that purpose.
Wal-Mart United Kingdom "Asda":
It was founded on February 19, 1949, in Leeds ,
Located in the United Kingdom, Asda is a major food distribution company.
